The existing NSW Government Facilities Management contract provides cleaning and maintenance services at government facilities, including schools, TAFE Colleges, courthouses and police and fire stations. Under the contract, cleaning services are delivered to approximately 4,200 sites and maintenance services are delivered to approximately 3,000 sites. A new procurement process for the cleaning contract has commenced.
The contract has been in place for seven years, costs more than $400 million per annum, and was due to expire on 30 June 2018.
The Government ran a rigorous two-stage procurement process in 2017 to re-let the contract. Following broad consultation with cleaners, and feedback from stakeholders, the Government agreed to revise the new cleaning services contract to offer employment and additional protections to permanently employed cleaners.
As a result, a new procurement process for the revised cleaning contract has commenced. To ensure there is no disruption to service delivery, and to provide job security and peace of mind for cleaners, the Government has secured a contract extension with the current cleaning service providers to 1 March 2019.
Meantime, the Government awarded eight new contracts to deliver facilities maintenance services on 19 April 2018. These new contracts, effective from 1 July 2018, are expected to save the Government more than $60 million over the term of the contract.
