Work starts on Western Sydney jobs hub
Construction work has started on a new $2 billion state-of-the-art office development in the heart of Parramatta that will accommodate NSW’s biggest ever government agency leasing commitment outside the Sydney CBD.
Minister for Finance, Services and Property Victor Dominello said Walker Corporation’s 4 Parramatta Square development would accommodate at least 4,000 public service roles from 2019.
“Parramatta is booming and this is another example of the NSW Government delivering more jobs to Western Sydney,” Mr Dominello said.
“Our long-term 62,000m2 lease of office space will establish Parramatta as a major public sector jobs hub, providing more opportunities for those who live in the west to work closer to home.”
The lease also aligns with the Greater Sydney Commission’s Draft Regional Plan and its Central City district vision to create conditions for a stronger economy and jobs growth for the Parramatta CBD and the Greater Parramatta area.
The new building will accommodate public sector roles from the departments of Planning and Environment; Finance, Services and Innovation; and Industry. More than 1,600 of these roles will be relocating from the Sydney CBD.
The development forms part of Parramatta Square, one of the largest urban renewal projects in the country.
The Parramatta Square redevelopment will revitalise Parramatta’s city centre with new A-Grade office space and civic facilities.
