Property NSW Commences Leasing Search In Western Sydney

CEO of Property NSW, Brett Newman, today announced that the Government has commenced a leasing market search to secure between 43,000 to 55,000 square metres of new A-Grade Government office accommodation in Western Sydney.

The call for Expressions of Interest follows the Government’s announcement last month that more than 600 Planning roles will be relocated to Western Sydney by 2019.

These roles will join more than 1,500 previously announced roles to relocate to Western Sydney from the Department of Finance, Services and Innovation, Department of Planning and Environment, the Office of Environment and Heritage and the Environment Protection Authority.

“By relocating public servants to Western Sydney, the Government is delivering more jobs closer to where people live and stimulating business and employment opportunities in this economic hub,” Mr Newman said.

Property NSW is seeking to lease between 43,000 to 55,000 square metres of office space in Western Sydney in either a single or multiple buildings, with an initial lease term of 12 years and two five-year options.

“The Government has committed to reducing its CBD office space holdings by at least 100,000 square metres by 2021 and moving those jobs out to metropolitan and regional areas,” Mr Newman said.

“To date there has been a relocation of more than 38,000 square metres of Government office space from the Sydney CBD to Western Sydney and regional NSW as part of the Decade of Decentralisation policy.”

Since 2014, the Government has announced the relocation of more than 4,200 public service roles from the CBD to Western Sydney, including more than 1,800 jobs from the Department of Education, which will be relocated to 105 Phillip Street in Parramatta, commencing in 2018.
