New Online Account Helps NSW Citizens “Tell Us Once”
NSW Minister for Finance, Services and Property, Dominic Perrottet today announced a new online account for NSW citizens will be available later this year through Service NSW. Mr Perrottet said the move would be a major step towards customers having a single view of their various dealings with the NSW government.
“One of the frustrations of dealing with government today is being asked for the same details multiple times by different departments,” he said. “But good service means customers should only ever have to ‘tell us once’.”
“This is why we are launching a new online account function through Service NSW for customers to manage their details online. This online account will be a cornerstone capability to simplify access to government transactions and act as a platform for additional digital services which will be added over time.”
Customers will be able to choose to create a Service NSW digital profile, link it to one or more government agencies to verify credentials and enable future transactions with that agency – all via the Service NSW website and the mobile app.
Through the account, customers can control what information they choose to share with Service NSW and how their information is used when conducting transactions with the government. Service NSW will securely store the data and will only use a customer’s data with the customer’s consent.
“The Liberal-National Government is committed to a digital future for NSW,” said Mr Perrottet. “The digital account is a major milestone on our ongoing journey to improve customer self-service outcomes, enhance privacy and data security and minimise risk (and the cost) of fraudulent transactions.
Service NSW has served more than 18 million customers since it launched in 2013, through its digital service at www.service.nsw.gov.au; 24/7 phone service, mobile app and service centres.
The online account functionality will be available from September 2015
